Duties to Include:
- Safely operate and drive tractor-trailer weighing up to 63,500 kg to transport goods and materials across Western Canada
- Be able to be away from home for up to a week at a time
- Plan trip logistics and obtain required documentation to transport goods
- Be physically able to chain down freight on decks, install tire chains, throw straps, assist in yard (shipping and receiving duties), etc. in all types of weather
- Perform pre-trip, on route, and post-trip inspection of vehicle systems (equipment, tires, lights, turn signals, brakes and load securement)
- Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and follow safety procedures for loading and unloading process
- Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
- Administer bills of lading and electronically maintain log books
- Knowledge of Western Canada geography and ability to use maps or GPS
- Ability to communicate with dispatcher, other drivers, and customers using communication devices and on-board computers
- May have to perform emergency roadside repairs
Minimum Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviors):
- Class 1 driver’s license (less than 3 demerits)
- Flat deck experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate
- Manual handling experience and the ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
- Strong customer service skills and a positive-professional attitude
- Drug free and preferably a non-smoker
- Ability to work within a team and communicate at all levels
