Regional Professional Class 1 Flat Deck Driver

Western Canada

Duties to Include:

  • Safely operate and drive tractor-trailer weighing up to 63,500 kg to transport goods and materials across Western Canada
  • Be able to be away from home for up to a week at a time
  • Plan trip logistics and obtain required documentation to transport goods
  • Be physically able to chain down freight on decks, install tire chains, throw straps, assist in yard (shipping and receiving duties), etc. in all types of weather
  • Perform pre-trip, on route, and post-trip inspection of vehicle systems (equipment, tires, lights, turn signals, brakes and load securement)
  • Ensure cargo is secured properly in accordance with safety requirements and follow safety procedures for loading and unloading process
  • Record cargo information, hours of service, distance travelled and fuel consumption
  • Administer bills of lading and electronically maintain log books
  • Knowledge of Western Canada geography and ability to use maps or GPS
  • Ability to communicate with dispatcher, other drivers, and customers using communication devices and on-board computers
  • May have to perform emergency roadside repairs

Minimum Competencies (Skills, Knowledge and Behaviors):

  • Class 1 driver’s license (less than 3 demerits)
  • Flat deck experience preferred, but willing to train the right candidate
  • Manual handling experience and the ability to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
  • Strong customer service skills and a positive-professional attitude
  • Drug free and preferably a non-smoker
  • Ability to work within a team and communicate at all levels
  • Ensure that Health & Safety is the number one priority by complying with Safety Rules and Company Policies and always acting in a safe manner
